Derived from the stalk and seed of cannabis (hemp) plants, cannabidiol (CBD) oil or CBD hemp oil is a natural botanical concentrate that is high in the compound CBD. Cannabinoids are the primary chemical compounds found in hemp and all cannabis plants. The two you have probably heard of are CBD and THC. CBD oil will not cause you to experience a euphoric effect, or “high.” Because CBD oil comes from cannabis (hemp), a common misconception is that it is psychoactive. The truth is, both hemp and marijuana are cannabis plants. Unlike medical marijuana products, CBD oil that’s derived from hemp, however, contains only trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the well-known psychoactive cannabinoid.
CBD interacts with the body through the endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS) or endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system regulates the body’s homeostasis, or general state of balance, affecting such functions as mood, sleep, appetite, hormone regulation, and pain and immune response.
Taking a CBD supplement can enhance your body’s ability to maintain homeostasis and manage physical and emotional stress as a result of changes in your immediate environment.
Skin Health
If your diet doesn’t include sources of fatty acids, this can affect your body in many ways, the most common being thick patches of skin, cracked heels and a host of other skin problems. Since one cannabis seed contains high amounts of fatty acids, using the seeds will alleviate symptoms associated with dermatitis and relieve the effects of eczema.
Alzheimer’s disease
Medical cannabis has been demonstrated to prevent cell death. The THC found in marijuana inhibits the primary marker of this terrible disease. When patients refuse food, medical marijuana can stimulate appetite, a positive result that carries over to many other conditions where a patient may experience a loss of appetite either from an ailment, or treatment.
Arthritis
The use of cannabis as a treatment for musclo-skeletal pain in western medicine dates to the 1700s. CBD oil has shown lots of improvement in the treatment of arthritis, medicinal qualities of CBD oil, it’s also known as cannabidiol plays a role in immune system modulation, which naturally makes it helpful for an autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis
Researchers think that CBD interacts with receptors in your brain and immune system. Receptors are tiny proteins attached to your cells that receive chemical signals from different stimuli and help your cells respond. This creates anti-inflammatory and painkilling effects that help with pain management. This means that CBD oil may benefit people with chronic pain, such as chronic back pain.
Further research still needs to continue being conducted, in order for the general public to become greater aware of its healing abilities.
Weight loss
Through scientific studies and evidence, people are discovering new ways to facilitate weight loss through the introduction of different nutrients to their body. Recent studies show a correlation between CBD and natural weight loss through something called “fat browning”.
CBD impacts metabolism through “fat browning”, which has led to the discovery of a correlation between CBD and weight loss among users. This is due to CBD’s interaction with the Endocannabinoid System in your body, a network of cannabinoid receptors that deal with regulating energy and calorie balance, as well as carbohydrate and fat metabolism. By engaging with your body’s cannabinoid receptors, CBD can prove to be a huge help when it comes to weight loss.
Anorexia
Eating disorders have been widely to reported be kept under control by medical marijuana. This figure is twice as much as placebo.
Asthma
At the 2004 Cannabis Therapeutics Conference, Editor of the “Journal of Cannabis Therapeutics”, Dr. Ethan Russo spoke on the history of medical cannabis use to treat asthma, and found that because it relaxes bronchi and dilates one’s alveoli.
Promotes Good Sleep
For people who suffer from insomnia, constant anxiety during the night or simply struggle to get a sound, restful night of undisturbed sleep, cannabis essential oil works like a charm. By relaxing the body and mind, and inducing a lower energy level, it will be easier to get your heart rate down and clear your head before a long night of peaceful slumber.
Cancer
“Possibly the greatest harm-reducing potential afforded by cannabinoids comes from their use by cancer patients,” according to Harm Reduction Journal, an online peer-reviewed medical journal. They go on to state “numerous cancer types are killed in cell cultures in animals by cannabinoids. For example, cannabinoids kill the cancer cells of various lymphoblastic malignancies such as leukemia, skin cancer, glioma, breast and prostate cancer… thyroid cancer, and colorectal cancer.” More research is needed however, as cannabinoids can promote cancer in other cells, particularly in the lungs.
Chronic pain
In the Institute of Medicine’s book Marijuana and Medicine, “For mild, moderate, and severe pain, the THC analogue was equivalent to 50 mg of codeine and superior to placebo and to 50 mg of secobarbital” (pg. 143). Pain caused by a variety of medical conditions such as multiple sclerosis or premenstrual cramps, has also been demonstrated to be treatable by medical marijuana.
